Yes, conservation in the winter! Get your hands in the dirt (or snow!) during this conservation "off" season.

The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), traditionally known for its summer programs since 2007, has expanded its offerings thank to strong community support. YCC is now seeking applicants for two Youth Conservation Corps winter programs on Lopez Island and San Juan Island.

Lopez Island Winter YCC

YCC is excited to enter its third year of collaboration with the Lopez Island Family Resource Center’s (LIFRC) After-School Program. Funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant awarded to LIFRC, the program provides free, year-round access to fun and enriching learning experiences for Lopez Island families.

This fall and winter, YCC program days will be held on Tuesday afternoons and are open to middle school students (5th–8th grade). Participants will explore environmental science through hands-on lessons and engage in meaningful stewardship projects on public lands across Lopez Island.

This partnership offers an excellent opportunity for Lopez youth to stay connected with nature and community through YCC all year long. This program is currently accepting new students here:

San Juan Island Winter YCC

YCC is proud to continue its successful Winter Program with Wolf Hollow Rehabilitation Center. The YCC program will be accepting ten applicants for the program where crew members will work two weekend days a month from January through March with an additional date in May, receiving a $25/day stipend.

This Winter, the YCC crew will focus on planting native trees at the Wolf Hollow campus and reconstruction the fence on the deer enclosure. Each day will be coupled with an environmental education lesson related to wildlife and their habitat needs in the Salish Sea ecosystem. Applications are open now here:
