Youth and Adult Conservation Corps
Training tomorrow's leaders by providing access to jobs and higher education
The Islands Conservation Corps is a field based ecological restoration programing working in forestry, riparian, and near shore ecosystems in the San Juan Islands. The program connects AmeriCorps members to the Ecological Restoration Certificate courses at Western Washington University. Second year members may apply to the Master of Arts in Environmental Studies, where they support students in the certificate program, gaining experience in teaching, project design, and project management.

The Youth Conservation Corps provides conservation and stewardship programs for youth ages 12-18. The popular summer program runs for 8 weeks June-August, serving Orcas, Lopez, and San Juan islands. Activities include trail building, habitat restoration, public information campaigns and even monitoring endangered species!
Our team members conduct themselves with an impressive mix of professionalism, curiosity and respect as they perform a variety of tasks, including carbon-sequestering burning practices, riparian zone restoration, near-shore ecology restoration, and the establishment of native shrubs and pollinators in treated ecosystems.
