Farm and Agricultural Services

Ongoing programs available to San Juan County ag producers

River in Autumn

Tackling critical areas restoration one landowner at a time. The Conservation District is the technical lead on San Juan County's Voluntary Stewardship Program - a state mandate to improve water quality and ecological health through voluntary landowner actions.

We provide free information, technical assistance, and farm planning to farmers within the County. Farm planning consists of a site visit, natural resource inventory, a discussion of property owner goals, and recommendations in the form of a conservation plan to achieve those goals.

We provide financial assistance to landowners for site improvements, based on the goals and objectives identified in a certified farm plan. Ag producers with a farm management plan are eligible to receive up to $50,000 to implement recommended Best Management Practices that will protect our natural resources.

San Juan County residents are eligible to rent natural resource management equipment from the Conservation District, often at no cost, to support conservation projects on their land. Available equipment includes a No Till Trill (1) to reduce soil disturbance, weed wrenches (4) for invasive plant removal, and, coming in 2026, Ring of Fire biochar kilns (3).
