POSITION:                         Programs Coordinator

SALARY:                               $18.50 - $22.00 DOQ

WORK SCHEDULE:           Monday – Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM (Some weekends may be required)

LOCATION:                         San Juan Island, Friday Harbor, Washington




Under general and direct supervision, this position works within all programs of the San Juan Islands Conservation District. This position will be challenging as it requires a wide spread knowledge of conservation best practices, education and public outreach as well a wide knowledge of modern communication technology.

Those programs include, but are not limited to;

  • Energy Program

    • Reports Directly to Energy Program Manger to assist with grant deliverables

    • Utilization of graphical design and website editing as directed

    • Assist with set up and break down of public speaking events

    • Knowledge of ductless heat pumps or other “green building” materials

    • Assists with video production, camera operation and post production

  • Water Quality / Storm Water Program

    • Collection and monitoring of storm water and surface water using prescribed methods

    • Writing of water quality reports

  • Forrest and Farm Planning

    • Reports to resource planners with field work, measurements, potentially Unmanned Aerial Vehicle operation.

    • Assist with set up and break down of public speaking events

    • Creation of outreach materials to the general public

  • Youth Conservation Corp

    • Assist Youth Conservation Corp manager with IT tasks as needed

    • Ability to comfortably lift up to 25lbs

  • General Office

    • Reports Directly to Office Manger to assist as needed

    • Ability to set up A/V presentations like power point or other digital media

    • Asses, diagnosis and repair of office computers, network, phone system and server

    • Website editing of upcoming events, calendar and other areas.


·         Excellent communication and writing skills.

·         Computer and software IT background. (Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites)

·         High proficiency in website development and publication.

·         Knowledge of video production techniques, camera operation and audio engineering.

·         Ability to be a team player and work independently; physically perform the tasks of the job; complete tasks on-time and within budget; and maintain confidentiality.

·         Extremely flexible and beyond excellent time management skills.



·         Knowledge and experience within the “Square space” web editing platform.

·         FAA Registered U.A.V. Operator

·         Familiarity with San Juan Islands’ natural resources

·         Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in natural sciences, agriculture, forestry, natural resource management, or equivalent experience in these areas.
