Deadline for popular conservation cost-share program set for August 13, 2010

 SPOKANE, Wash. (June 21, 2010) – Agricultural producers have until August 13 to apply for financial and technical assistance through Washington’s most popular conservation program, USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced today. The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) is a voluntary, technical and financial assistance program designed to help farmers improve irrigation efficiency; manage nutrient run-off and/or animal waste; improve the health of native plant communities; and reduce soil loss. In most instances, producers who participate in the program pay for roughly half of the costs of the conservation measures or practices. Read more on how to apply...

The San Juan Islands Conservation District Board of Supervisors is comprised of three elected positions and two appointed positions. Each supervisor serves a 3-year term.

Soils Survey Information and Workshop will be held on Thursday, August 19th, 2010 at the Agriculture Tent during the San Juan County Fair in Friday Harbor, WA.

Farm and Forest Owners: Apply for Cost-Share-The USDA-NRCS Programs such as Wetlands Reserve Program, Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program and Environmental Quality Incentives Program helps agricultural producers, property owners and forest owners pay for conservation best management practices. Board Meetings
The San Juan Islands Conservation District holds monthly board meetings on alternating islands on the second Tuesday of each month. Board members and staff address various administrative items and discuss a variety of Conservation District policy and program related topics. Board meetings are open and the public is encouraged to attend!
