The Washington
Coastal Atlas
http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/sea/sma/atlas_home.html
The atlas provides geographically linked information to support
coastal zone management and has been significantly improved in the
past year. It now includes information on:
• habitat features such as wetlands & eelgrass,
• physical features such as drift cells & slope
stability,
• regulated features such as rivers & streams regulated by the
Shoreline Management Act,
• shoreline modifications such as piers and docks, &
• jurisdictional delineations such as cities and watersheds.
The Washington Coastal Atlas also offers:
• downloadable current & historic oblique aerial photography of
all Washington marine shorelines & some freshwater
shorelines
• land cover information for 1991, 1996, and 2001
• reports showing the amount of change in forest canopy cover
and
• impervious surface cover between these years at a county,
watershed & sub-basin scale.
Soil Survey of San
Juan County
The updated
Soil Survey for San Juan County is available online. The web
address is:
http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app/
When you arrive at the home page you will notice there are lots of
tabs, buttons, etc. to assist you. When you start the WSS (Web Soil
Survey) you will want to navigate to your area of interest, you can
do this by county, Soil Survey Area ( e.g. San Juan County Soil
Survey Area), address, or a custom area defined by you through the
interactive map.
The survey is a fairly comprehensive inventory of the soils and
vegetation for SJC. The NRCS have updated the hay and pasture
yields, forest site indices, water table data, etc. So, if you have
a resource concern and you think it might not be related to soils
the maps have interpretations that cover most everything you can
think of that will help with land management
planning.
