Fall 2008 Meeting
San Juan Islands Conservation District hosted the Washington State Conservation Commission, State Legislators and Local Government in Friday Harbor from September 17-18, 2008. On September 17, 2008 we held a Farm Tour 1:00-5:00 pm ending at Westcott Bay Orchards.
The tour included projects which highlight the many partnerships the conservation district has. The projects chosen implement a variety of program and funding mechanisms. The sites have different resource concerns and different land uses.
The areas included:

The areas included:
- Cady Mountain - NRCS Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) Project An on-going Garry Oak savannah restoration project on the top of Cady Mountain.
- Lacrover Farm - Local Agriculture and Farm Planning A family-owned-and-operated certified organic farm, which raises a variety of animals, poultry and produce on 30 acres. Participated in the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.
- Mitchell Bay Farm - Agricultural Resources Committee Chair's Multifaceted Farm A certified organic farm and nursery owned and operated by the Conservation District Farm Planner and Agricultural Resources Committee Chair, Bruce Gregory and wife Colleen Howe.
- Westcott Bay Orchards - Tour a premier member of the Islands Certified Local program in San Juan County. Unique among small Washington wineries, Westcott Bay Orchards produces and bottles crisp, refreshing ciders with a complexity and finish provided by using traditional cider apples grown in our San Juan Island orchard.
