Update on the Soil Testing Challenge: Fall 2011

88 soil samples were entered into our Soil Testing Challenge this past October. In general the results demonstrated that many of the San Juan County garden samples showed "high to excessive nutrient levels."  On the other hand nutrient levels in San Juan County pastures were low.
A great big thank you to Craig Simson and his staff at the AgSource Soil Testing Lab for teaming with the San Juan Islands Conservation District and San Juan County WSU Extension to sponsor the San Juan County Soil Test Challenge: AgSource Laboratories, Umatilla, Oregon

BLM lands in Eastern Washington and the San Juan Archipelago in Washington State

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Spokane District is preparing a
resource management plan (RMP) and associated environmental impact
statement (EIS) for 425,000 acres of public lands in Eastern Washington
and the San Juan Archipelago in Washington State.
This plan will guide future management of these lands and will allocate
lands and identify constraints for uses, to include livestock grazing.

The BLM is currently developing alternatives for the RMP/EIS and would
like to hear your suggestions during an upcoming public workshop.

Aug 27 - Friday Harbor  - Mullis Senior Center, 589 Nash St

More information about the workshops and the RMP process is available on
