POSITION TITLE: Conservation District Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The District Manager is responsible to the
Conservation District Board of Supervisors for all day-to-day operations of the District, including managerial, administrative, and programmatic functions.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Program design, management, and evaluation;
• Program implementation as necessary to pursue District plans and fulfill contractual obligations;
• Field work as required by program activities;
• Personnel management and supervision;
• Budgeting and financial management;
• Long and short range organizational planning;
• Coordination, collaboration, and liaison with local government and with other conservation and stewardship organizations;
• Public relations;
• Grant writing and grants management;
• Supporting the Board of Supervisors in carrying out its governance responsibilities;
• Maintaining District records as required by state law.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The position involves a broad range of management, programmatic, administrative, financial, and policy responsibilities. Strong multi-tasking capabilities are essential.

• Three years of increasingly responsible experience in supervision and/or management;
• Bachelors degree in a field closely related to the duties of this position (directly relevant experience may be substituted year for year to meet the education requirement);
• Strong computer literacy;
• Highly developed communication skills, both written and oral;
• Strong interpersonal skills, working both with individuals and with groups;
• Some experience in organizational financial management;
• Ability to organize and manage a heavy, wide-ranging; and frequently varying work load; meet frequent deadlines; and develop innovative solutions to organizational and programmatic issues and problems.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Work experience in natural resources conservation and management in agriculture, forestry, or low–impact/sustainable development);
• Knowledge of the natural ecology of the Northwest in general and the San Juan Islands in particular;
• Understanding and appreciation of the role of conservation districts as non-regulatory providers of conservation support and technical assistance to private landowners.

HOURS:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), although a schedule with fewer hours may be negotiable. Some flexibility in scheduling is permitted and will, from time to time, be required.

COMPENSATION:

$22.00/hour to start. Excellent benefit package provided.

San Juan County Conservation District is a local government entity, that functions as an arm of the Washington State Conservation Commission.
